Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre

City of Kenora | July 2011 | 6,000 sq ft

The 6,000 sq. ft. building is intended as both a tourist information centre and community cultural facility with programming and displays specifically illustrating the beauty of Lake of the Woods. The building utilizes lake loop heat pumps for both cooling and heating. Large overhangs provide full shading to the gallery’s two-story glazing in the summer and full sun penetration in the winter. Glazing consists of super clear glass which provides the heat protection of a tint or reflective glass but renders the exterior in true colour. This building received the 2011 Ontario Woodworks Award for a building under $10 million.
