The Paterson Clinic expansion accommodates expanding health services delivered to the community by the Sunset Country Family Health Team. Additionally, it provides space for the expanding complement of physicians and students from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.

The building is connected to the existing clinic by a bridge walkway to reduce the effective size of the building and its associated code requirements. It is designed to complement the existing brick building but present a more contemporary appearance to the community.
